Rio de Janeiro is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Fact. I appreciate getting there might severely affect your budget, but Gosh, it’s worth it!
Apart from visiting the amazing Ipanema and Copacabana beaches, make sure you will venture into slightly bohemian Santa Teresa and Lapa.
In Santa Teresa you can expect numerous 19th-century mansions, some of them restored by the migrating there artists, and the last streetcar operating in Rio (I’ve got an unexplained thing for trams;).
Santa Teresa is like a village with plenty of independent cosy café shops, bars and art galleries. Very shabby chic!
Lapa is more edgy. It offers excellent nightlife for those looking for adventure and not too demanding. Great place for spotting street art.
If you are an alternative art lover, you’d love the Escadaria Selarón. Chilean-born artist Jorge Selarón decided to cover the 215 steps with colorful mosaics, and he encourages visitors to bring tiles from other countries.
Have you ever been to Rio? Are you planning to go in the next few years for the World Cup and/or the Olympics?
